BITE-SIZED (what’s inside)
LESSON LEARNED
The right tool changes everything

When I started The Lime Truck, I used to make all of our guacamole by hand.
I’m talking 2–3 cases of avocados, all the fillings, mixing it myself.
It would take me 4–5 hours just to make enough for a couple days.
And I thought that was just part of the job.
Then someone showed me “Brian” a 1-horsepower immersion stick blender.
Game over.
What used to take me hours… took a fraction of the time. Same product. Same quality. Just a different tool.
And I remember thinking:
“Why didn’t I know about this earlier?”
At the time, there just wasn’t as much information out there. You figured things out the hard way.
Now we have the opposite problem — there’s too much information.
But the lesson still stands:
The right tool doesn’t just make things easier.
It gives you your life back.
3 Takeaways
Time is your most valuable asset. Tools buy it back.
Hard doesn’t mean better. Sometimes it just means you’re missing a better way.
The best operators are always upgrading their tools.
THE PLAYBOOK
Upgrade your tools
This week I want you to do a quick audit.
Ask yourself:
What is taking me way longer than it should?
Then ask:
Is this a skill problem… or a tool problem?
Because a lot of times, it’s not about working harder.
It’s about working smarter with the right setup.
Examples:
If you’re BOH
Is there a faster prep method?
Is there a tool that saves repetitive motion?
Are you organizing your station for speed?
If you’re FOH
Are you using systems to track guests/preferences?
Are you communicating efficiently with the kitchen?
If you’re running a business
Are you still managing things in your head?
Are you missing systems that create clarity?
TOOLS I’M USING RIGHT NOW
Here’s what I personally lean on:
Ninety (EOS) → probably the biggest one for me
It helps organize the entire business — priorities, meetings, accountabilityClickUp → project management, keeping everything moving
Old-school to-do list → still undefeated for daily focus
It’s not about having every tool.
It’s about having the right few that actually make your life easier.
QUESTION FOR YOU
What tools are you using right now that you love?
Could be kitchen tools.
Could be tech.
Could be something simple.
Reply and tell me — I’m always looking for better ways to operate.
HOSPITALITY HIGHLIGHT
Ki

We went to Ki, and it was one of those experiences that reminds you what great hospitality actually feels like.
It wasn’t loud. It wasn’t flashy.
It was awareness.
The sommelier, Vladimir, and the entire team were so dialed in to every detail.
At one point I was about 90% through my tea, and without saying a word, they were already preparing the next pour.
They read the room.
They read the moment.
They made it feel effortless.
And that’s the thing:
Great hospitality isn’t just service.
It’s awareness.
DINE & GRIND
Ayesha
On the podcast, I want to shout out Ayesha.
She has this way of warming you up just by talking to her.
It’s not forced. It’s not scripted. It’s just presence.
And that’s a reminder:
Sometimes the most powerful “tool” you have… is how you make people feel.

THE CHALLENGE
This week:
Find one thing that’s taking too long
Upgrade the tool, system, or process
Buy back your time
Because once you do that…
You don’t just get efficiency.
You get energy back to focus on what actually matters.
Until next time,
Daniel
P.S. Forward this to someone who’s still making guac by hand 😄
